Jess Klassen-Wright (they/them) is an indexer at Ideas on Fire, where they use their interdisciplinary background and dedication to detail to craft dynamic indexes that illuminate authors’ unique voices while also enhancing the impact and usability of interdisciplinary books.

As a freelance professional, Jess indexes, copyedits, proofreads, and provides footnote construction for both academic and trade books, and they specialize in English and Canadian literature studies, history and esoteric intellectual traditions, postcolonial studies, feminist and queer theory, and Mexican and Latin American studies.

They are a member and volunteer at the Indexing Society of Canada, hold a BA in English from the University of Saskatchewan, and completed their indexing training at Simon Fraser University.

In 2020, they received the Purple Pen Award for best new indexer from the Institute of Certified Indexers.

Before launching their own business, Jess was a frontline worker with inner-city populations and they have volunteered and corresponded with incarcerated individuals since 2019. Currently, they live and work in Tiohtiá:ke/Montréal, the traditional territory of the Kanien’kehà:ka.
