Taking Your Scholarship Public

by | Sep 22, 2020

We are excited to announce that Ideas on Fire founder Dr. Cathy Hannabach will be delivering a plenary on Taking Your Scholarship Public at the Publication Development Forum on Friday, October 2, 2020.

Event

Public engagement is the new normal in scholarship, as scholars across the disciplines have realized what interdisciplinary folks have long known: the best scholarship is embedded in and responsive to the communities it addresses. Ditching the tired myth of isolated professors in ivory towers, scholars are realizing they’re also cultural producers, media makers, digital creators, writers, and community activists. COVID-19 has in many strange ways made this even more apparent, as university faculty are adopting online-first research and teaching techniques drawing on the lessons community educators have long employed.

In this plenary, Dr. Hannabach will share ways to take your scholarship public—from podcasting and trade publishing to digital book tours and community partnerships.
