Researcher and Copyeditor
Michelle Velasquez-Potts, PhD, is a researcher and copyeditor at Ideas on Fire, where she helps interdisciplinary academic clients find the right language and publishers for their scholarly books.
Michelle’s interests meet at the intersections of feminist theory, critical ethnic studies, political theory, visual cultures, and science and technology studies. Her dissertation analyzes how state technologies of torture interrupt or prohibit corporeal forms of resistance such as hunger striking. As a writing instructor, she specializes in the relational and political stakes of reading and writing, as well as the more pragmatic aspects of composition.
She is an editorial board member of Qui Parle, an interdisciplinary humanities and social science journal.
Michelle received her PhD in the Department of Rhetoric at the University of California, Berkeley where she is also a writing instructor.
