Michelle Velasquez-Potts
Researcher and developmental editorDr. Michelle Velasquez-Potts (she/her) is a press researcher and developmental editor at Ideas on Fire, where she helps interdisciplinary academic clients find the right language and publishers for their scholarly books.
Michelle’s interests meet at the intersections of feminist and queer theory, science and technology studies, and visual cultures analysis.
Her work focuses on the relationship between medicine and punishment, in particular the rise of force-feeding post-9/11. She has published articles in the journals Women and Performance and Public Culture as well as the anthology Captive Genders: Trans Embodiment and the Prison Industrial Complex (AK Press, 2011).
As a writing instructor, she specializes in the relational and political stakes of reading and writing, as well as the more pragmatic aspects of composition.
Michelle is a postdoctoral fellow in the Center for Women’s and Gender Studies at the University of Texas at Austin.
She received her PhD in the Department of Rhetoric at the University of California, Berkeley.
