Dr. Shazia Iftkhar (she/her) is a developmental editor at Ideas on Fire, where she helps clients sharpen their ideas and arguments so that their projects reach their highest potential.

Shazia also works as a media consultant and freelance editor. Her subject matter expertise resides in critical media studies and citizenship with attention to race, ethnicity, gender, and religion in the public sphere, especially in relation to globalization, migration, and diaspora. Drawing on media studies, sociology, political philosophy and religion, her research examines headscarf and veil debates in France through the concept of secularism and public life, and, more broadly, questions of citizenship and migration in Europe.

A former faculty member at the University of Michigan, Shazia enjoys nurturing writers and ideas as well as teaching and coaching academics.

Shazia holds a PhD in mass communication, with a minor in media and cultural studies, from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a MA in journalism from Temple University, and a BA in psychology from Dartmouth College, as well as a certificate in graphic design.

In her spare time, Shazia is an avid reader, film buff, and knitter.
