2023 Association of Internet Researchers conference

October 18–21, 2023, Sonesta Hotel, Philadelphia, PA

We are thrilled to be joining you in person for the 2023 Association of Internet Researchers conference in Philadelphia! Ideas on Fire is honored to be sponsoring this wonderful interdisciplinary event that draws together digital and internet studies scholars from across the globe for a week of learning, sharing, and collaborating.

You can check out our virtual conference hub, which has a bunch of resources for digital studies and internet studies scholars. There are podcast playlists, book lists, and more.

Got an interdisciplinary project you want some editing or indexing help with? IoF founder Cathy Hannabach will be meeting with authors at the conference.

We are SO jazzed that the conference keynote is no other than #IoFAuthor and founder of Open TV Aymar Jean (AJ) Christian! His keynote address is Reparative Media: Cultivating Stories and Platforms to Heal our Culture and offers a wonderful preview of his forthcoming book, which we have been privileged to edit.

  • Description: At a time when we are more connected than ever, why does it feel like our cultural divisions are intensifying? The companies that connect our cultures—media, tech, and information—are perpetuating centuries-old harms. Repairing our culture means healing how we make media, how we connect through technology, and how we generate knowledge.

Many of our other awesome #IoFAuthors are presenting their work as well.

We want to give a huge shout out and thank you to AoIR conference chair Adrienne Shaw whose tireless dedication, thoughtful care, and organizational brilliance has made this event possible. As just a small example, take a look at this amazing Philadelphia guide she has spent 4 YEARS creating to ensure this event is accessible and enjoyable for everyone involved.

Even if you can’t attend in person, you can follow along with the conversations at the conference hashtag #AoIR2023. AoIR is using Mastodon for this year’s conference, so head over to there to join in.
