Dr. E. Alex Crawley (they/them) is a developmental editor at Ideas on Fire, where they take a holistic approach to editing that encourages authors to cultivate texts that both capture and challenge readers.

Alex runs Lodestar Editing & Coaching, where they work with genre fiction and academic authors on pieces ranging from short stories and journal articles to novels and edited collections.

Alex is a graduate of the Clarion West Writer’s Workshop in Seattle, which aims to uplift marginalized voices and build diversity into the speculative fiction publishing landscape. Their latest fiction appears in Xenocultivars: Stories of Queer Growth, and their continuing work reflects on nonbinary young/new adulthood, the limits/inventions of language, and the (literal) magic of creative endeavor.

Alex earned their PhD in modern British history and science and technology studies (STS) from the University of Illinois at Chicago and firmly believes in abandoning scarcity mindsets in classrooms and academic departments.

They live on the ancestral lands of the Duwamish people near Seattle, and in their free time are an amateur nature photographer, pretty good vegetarian chef, and enthusiastic but floppy runner.
